Frequently Asked Questions
Although the Board has not yet been formed and the By Laws have not been created, this page will serve to answer some basic questions about the structure and mission of the Foundation.

  • Question: Is the Foundation sponsored by the schools?
Answer: No, the Foundation is an independent organization seeking non-profit status that is focused on fundraising and making grants that enrich, enhance and support Kingston's public education system.
  • Question: Is the foundation sponsored by the Elementary School Committee?
Answer: No.; however, the Foundation will need to seek approval from the School Committee to raise funds on behalf of the School system.
  • Question: Is the Foundation related or sponsored by the PTO?
Answer: No. Although both organizations raise funds to further education, the Foundation is independent and focuses on enriching programs through science and technology.
  • Question: Will money raised by the Foundation and granted to the schools go only to programs focused on science and technology?
Answer: No. The Foundation will focus on awarding grants for programs that support science and technology. Having said that, the Foundation will award grants to the schools to purchase technology that will assist teachers with all curriculum. Many education foundations in other towns have purchased "Smart Boards" for the schools that are used across many subjects.
  • Question: What is the time frame and goals for raising money?
Answer: The immediate need at the schools is for 140 new PCs. Through a series of fundraisers, the Foundation should begin making grants to the schools for new PCs beginning in the Fall of 2008. In the past, the KYSO organization has raised $60,000 + with a one day golf tournament, dinner, silent and live auctions, sponsorships, and associated raffles. There are many parents who believe that we can do the same for the schools.

We're still forming the foundation and would appreciate any input and ideas you may have.
